Hey guys, Thanks for the interview!
To answer your questions about the ribbon corrugation, the foil is corrugated like an accordion so that it acts like a small spring. This spring force allows the ribbon to be installed in the magnet gap with some dynamic tension so that it doesn’t flop around like a sail, or get stretched so tight that you lose low-frequency response.
I hope that helps explain it. Anybody with questions about building the DIY Austin Ribbon Microphone can email me directly at: RickshawRecords@yahoo.com.

Nice interview with Rick Wilkinson. In the spirit of full disclosure, I’m an old friend of Rick’s and have been involved in the testing of his ribbon mics…and I own a stereo ribbon he built for me.
Well I guess I need to build a ribbon mic now.
