This week Ryan talks about the “Ask the Mixers – LA” panel that he went to a couple days earlier and how it got him thinking more about ourboard EQ than ever and Jesse brings up the topic of the new product releases from Avid.

I wish i had a lunch box with a lot of eq’s from a design cause i already own a pacifica preamp and i love it.
Once again thx for the show.
Gerzon wrote an interesting paper on why all analog EQs seem to have different sounds (http://www.audiosignal.co.uk/Resources/Why_do_equalisers_sound_different_USL.pdf). I think these unique properties are part of the charm. Any analog hear with transformers or tubes is going to add some character. Also, all analog EQ introduces shifts in the time domain at some frequencies but not others (unlike “phase linear” digital EQs). These shifts may promote decorrelation, which can help unmask sounds.
Thanks so much for coming out to our mixer panel and even more for chatting about it on the show.
FYI. My fave A Designs EQ is the EM-PEQ.

Thanks for the additional info. Now I just need to find a pile of money to go shopping with!
Have you heard of the Waves Q-Clone? It captures hardware EQ settings. Check out this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxJlf5uohUs
Now I just need a hardware EQ to replicate. lol
